MP backs biodiesel tax break project

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a project to keep tax breaks for companies who produce biodiesel.

Producers converting cooking oil into biodiesel currently benefit from a 20p differential however that is because of end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been meeting the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.

Mr George said "a variety of little organizations in Cornwall presently generate income from used cooking oil".

He added: "In order to be able to get this sort of industry going it does require simply a bit of lift which can be found in the form of tax inevitable."

Biodiesel is a mix of conventional diesel, rapeseed and vegetable oils.
